The last shoot with the 95 year old master of the Chinese kitchen. Was great to see Cecilia again over a year since our last shoot. She’s still spry and cooked us a sumptuous homemade meal with her specialty--twice cooked pork. Unbelievable!
I Heart Autopsy
One of the most unique shoots I’ve done--a sizzle reel for an autopsy show. mrs_angemi instagram account has almost 800,000 followers!
Going 4K With Sony Cinema Cameras
We recently added 3 more 4K cameras for a total of 4 cameras that have 4 times the resolution of HD. Though not yet widely utilized, 4K acquisition can bring great benefits to HD programming as well. Super sampling improves image quality and with better compression, the data storage requirements are becoming cheaper every day. Sony PMW-F55, PMW-F5, FDR-AX100, and A7Sii. See what the hype is all about.
Jamie & Doug’s NYC Date Night
A half hour special airing on Dec. 3rd on FYI, about a couple who got married at first sight (a different show) and then started dating after that. So the show was suppose to be a long date in NYC that was set up by Michael Chernow, the host of Food Porn, another show I was the DP for earlier in the summer. It sounds convoluted, but it’s how TV promotes (or cross-promotes, to use their marketing jargon) their shows. I’m not here to explain it; I just shoot the shows.
Charleston Home Renovation
Went down to Charleston, SC, to shoot the first part of a home renovation show pilot. Beautiful homes, and great weather in mid-October. Good times.
More Hall of Fame Inductees
Stuttgart, Germany, San Francisco and New York. More biographical shorts of the 2015 inductees into Interior Design’s Hall of Fame with Cindy Allen serving as host, meeting designers and architects, getting tours of their amazing work, and four camera interviews to boot. Always fun and educational.
New FYI TV Show
Spent a month following Michael Chernow, the owner of The Meatball Shops, around the country as he found the dishes that are trending on Instagram and Twitter, and found out if they were truly worthy of all the buzz--Food Porn will make you hungry. Hamburgers, desserts, fried chicken, recipes of all kinds. It was another fattening job. Time to exercise.
Day Trip to Detroit
Early morning flight to shoot the art and design scene in Detroit for Interior Design Magazine and editor in chief, Cindy Allen. Saw some great art--including some original Diego Rivera murals at the DIA (Detroit Institute of Art). Then a late night flight back to NYC. Pretty much the longest commute for a one day shoot yet--Ottawa is a close second.
Rocky Mountain paintings of 1837
Spent a week in spectacular Wyoming to shoot and produce short documentaries on Baltimore native Alfred Jacob Miller. He was the only painter to visit the Green River Rendezvous and chronicle the annual gathering of thousands of Native Americans and the American fur trappers known as the Mountain Men! An incredible backdrop for our shoot.
Beach Bites pilot
Shooting a pilot for a show on eating great food from great beaches around the country. Hosted by Katie Lee, from The Kitchen, this show will hopefully be on the Cooking Channel. I’ve got to say, this is a dream job. Good crew, lovely host, and nice locations. Hope it gets picked up for a full season!
What the Fung?! premieres on FYI
The first of 13 episodes of brothers Andrew and David Fung traveling and eating their way across the country. Watch it at 9pm tonight on the FYI channel.
It was fun project to shoot (though a bit fattening). Check it out. Thanks.
That’s a wrap on Season 1 of What The Fung
I returned to Savannah, Georgia, this week to finish up our shoot on David and Andrew Fung’s new show on A&E’s FYI network, called What The Fung.
Two days, four restaurants and tons of beautiful scenics. It was a great way to end our two month shoot. Only wish the Fung Bros. and my brothers, Brodee and Joe De, were on this trip. But I look forward to Season 2!
Final shoot in Endicott for Death by Design
Drove back to Endicott, NY, to finish up shooting for a documentary on the deleterious effects of our fascination with technology. Currently being edited, Death by Design should be in theaters later this year. An eye opening project to work on.
Two week shoot in Spain for new documentary
Along with director, Joe Lovett, and producer, Hilary Steinman, I recently spent 2 weeks in Madrid, Segovia and Toledo, Spain, filming the documentary Children of the Inquisition. Along with historian David Gitlitz, we followed NY Times reporter Doreen Carvajal as she traces her Jewish roots back to the 1400’s. Then David guided us through the beginnings of the Inquisition in Toledo. Beautiful locations of medieval Spain set the scene visually.
